Peace and Open Fields and Mango Trees
I apologize in advance that this computer will not let me capitalize the letter n…
We stayed at Campo Alegria last weekend – a beautiful retreat for street kids on the shores of Lake nicaragua. no ministry, just a time to escape. After a while, you start to see past the masquerade here. You see girls who meet there own mothers passing on the street who don’t want them, and boys who drink and sniff glue because it is all they have ever known. You start to feel it, the weight of the battle going on around you.
At Campo Alegria, there was only peace and open fields and mango trees. I got to watch movies on a TV, sleep in AC, take a hot shower, make pancakes, ride horses down the beach.
Then we came back. It is Semana Santa, the week before Easter, and an excuse to party and get hammered and hang out with friends on the beach.
We have been working a lot to raise money for the Vida Joven race coming up next Sat. You can read more about it in my last blog. I am helping to plan the rally Fri night- a normal Vida Joven club in central park, complete with a drama including your’s truly as the prostitute. Think Everything drime except more hip movement put to Spanish Christian rap.
This blog is kind of wandering. I guess since my mind has been wandering lately too. As I have spent more time here, I am learning that I did not sign up for this trip to “do ministry,” but to learn how to be. This week we made lists of who we want to be – the characteristics we want to be remembered for. Here is my list.
At rest in the Father, and encouraging others to be at ease
Joyful
Stunningly beautiful
A writer
Loves everyone, without condition
Strong character
Listens
Fearless
Worshipper of God, leads others to a place of worship
Lord, help me to dwell in you and be this woman who you created me to be. Amen.
that list sounds like a perfect description of you right now. maybe if there was a little something you could work on it would be your being a little more joyful with your dada when on vacation trips, and listening to your dada a little more also. LOL !!!!!
i wasn’t finished yet. then i was going to say you would be absolutely perfect !!!!
Praying for your “being” as well as your “doing” 🙂
Hey, Liana
Enjoy life each day, each hour, each moment, each breath. Do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow brings it’s own beauty, heartache, challenge. Life is short, live it to the fullest. It’s in doing we find out who we are. And your doing just fine. Enjoy your siesta!
P.S. Love hearing from you and about your ministry.
Hey Liana,
Great list. I’ll be praying for you, I’ll pray that God gives you the grace you reach your goal.
